Painting Our World In Silver is a newly launched charity aimed at bringing people from local communities together to have fun, learn new things and share interesting stories.
Silver is aimed at the older generation and is intended to help people enrich their lives through the means of crafting, activities and learning and development.
Silver’s inaugural get together was on Thursday 16 June and was opened and attended by Tannia Shipley, the Mayor of Elmbridge. The event was themed as a tea party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday celebration. Two guest speakers from the Molesey Historical Society delivered a thoroughly interesting presentation on the History of Molesey during the Queen’s 90 years, made even better by the fact one of the attendees was featured in an historic photo shown on the day! Around 30 attendees tried their hand at making a commemorative drinks coaster and the event was a huge success.
Silver will be hosting regular get togethers on the third Thursday of every month at the Molesey Centre in West Molesey, Surrey. These sociable events will give over 65s the opportunity to learn new crafts and activities, meet new people and listen to talks given by guest speakers.
Our next event on 21 July will be celebrating Summer.
The charity was founded by Lisa Powis, CEO of Fresh Insurance Group.
Lisa states, “Having watched a programme called The Age of Loneliness, I was concerned about the increase in loneliness within the elderly generation. I wanted to create a forum in which people could come together to meet new people, enjoy crafting and activities whilst learning and developing through talks given by speakers.”
